Our History
Serenity Hospice was founded over 10 years ago with the goal of providing hospice care to veterans. In fact, in their first year, Serenity only cared for veteran patients. Quickly, Serenity grew in size and began serving the larger Portland community. The origin of the organization was a grass roots operation and some of the original teammates remain to this day. Soon enough the team realized that there was a need for expanded hospice care in Salem and branched out to the South.
Serenity was one of the first hospices in the area to implement Complementary Alternative Medicine like massage therapy, acupuncture and music thanatology. Unlike many hospices that utilize volunteers for these services when they can find it, Serenity actually employs people with these certifications and gives them full caseloads of patients.
As Serenity grew, the opportunity became available to join with ADDUS HomeCare. Joining this network of hospices, and other home care service lines, has allowed Serenity to focus on excellent patient care while ADDUS manages operational issues like insurance, regulations, and tech support.
ADDUS HomeCare is a leading provider of comprehensive home care and support services. Our core objective is providing great care for the elderly, disabled and chronically ill, especially those who are facing a life-limiting illness and has a prognosis of 6-months or less. In addition ADDUS focuses on those who are at risk of hospitalization or institutionalization.
